ETEC 551 - Education and the Internet
Survey of educational applications throughout the Internet. Characteristics of teaching and learning mediated through the Internet; analysis and design of Internet-based learning activities; design and development of online courses; implementation, management, and administration of online learning.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) # 3 & #6
SLO #3
Apply instructional design principles to design and develop educational materials.
SLO #6
Locate, assess, and apply online resources to create learning experiences.
Reflection:
In this course we learned about various educational tools and applications and how they may be used when designing online instructional materials. Additionally we learned how to create a basic online course using these various tools, which was very useful given I was attempting a reverse instruction classroom myself the following year. Overall, this course was a great introduction to ETEC 570, a more in depth course on accessible the design and development of online instructional materials.
The two artifacts I have chosen are a Survey I created using Google+ Forms, and an online comparison completed with a partner. I chose to include the Google+ Form it shows my experience with creating surveys or quizzes using online tools a key component to good instructional design. The online tool comparison shows my ability to inspect similar tools for their pros and cons for instructional design a very important aspect of designing activities for an online or hyrbid course.
Artifacts:
Online Course Creation: Sociology101 (SLO #3, #6)
This was the culminating project in this course as students were required to create the first 3 weeks of material for an online course using any LMS (Learning Management System) we wanted. This course was created with a program called Udemy.com. Due to an inability to share the course with the public there is not link but a screen capture of the site is provided below.
Survey: Strategies for Success: Test Analysis (SLO #3)
Students were expected to create a survey/quiz using an online forum such as Google+ Forms or Survey Monkey. The survey/quiz had to meet the specifications discussed in class and the course text book as well as meet aspects Blooms Taxonomy.
Online Tool Comparison (Stephanie Gamache & Lisa Foltz) (SLO #5)
Students were expected compare similar online tools for cost, usability in education, ease of use, best practices, and the pros and cons to each tool.
