Student Learning Outcome (SLO) #1
Apply knowledge of multicultural, ethical & legal issues pertaining to using ICT with the global community.
Reflection:
Along with ETEC 510 this was the one of the first courses I took in the Educational Technology Program. In this course through readings, class discussions, online discussions and discussion facilitation, and other activities students learned about the many ways technology has positively and negatively affected our culture and society. This course opened my eyes to the many issues created by technology such as equity problems due to socioeconomic status or availability. While I was always aware of some of the issues created by socioeconomic status I never considered gender as causing issues in technology. Overall this course was helpful in giving me the proper tools to be unbiased yet considerate when implementing technology tools into my own instruction.
The artifacts I am providing is a research paper on how gender affects software piracy and a presentation on the book Amusing Ourselves to Death (1st part). I chose to include the research paper for two reason: 1 it was a similar theme to another research paper on teens and software piracy, and 2 because it discussed the issues of gender and educational technologies which was the part of the course which shocked me the most. As for the presentation, I chose to include it because it was a great book about how technology is negatively impacting our society which is in direct correlation with the material of the course. The second part of the presentation was completed and presented by my partner, Lisa.
Artifacts:
Research Paper: The Difference of Gender on Software Piracy: A Discussion on Effects of Ethics and Self Control (SLO #1)
Students were required to write a research paper discussing a technology topic and how it is affected by gender, cultural bias, or equity issues.
Amusing Ourselves to Death part 1 (Presentation): (SLO#1, #5)
Students were required to present on various books in pairs or small groups. All texts related to social and cultural implications of technology and media.
